Mission

To provide a mission experience for older elementary and middle school students within the Arkansas United Methodist Annual Conference.

What is Destination: Mission?
Destination: Mission Trips began in 2008, as a mission project for students attending First United Methodist Church – Siloam Springs.DM

The first year, a group of adults, led by Kaylea Hutson, then minister to families with children, ventured to Joplin, Mo., for Destination: Joplin.

The mission trip has now grown beyond Siloam Springs to include multiple churches within the Arkansas Conference of the United Methodist Church including: Elm Springs, First Bella Vista, First Springdale, Central Fayetteville, St. Paul Little Rock, Pulaski Heights Little Rock, St. James Little Rock, Vilonia, Asbury Little Rock, and Highland Valley Little Rock.

Destinations have been
2008 and 2009 – Joplin, Missouri
2010 – Little Rock, Arkansas (staying at First United Methodist North Little Rock and going to Arkansas Rice Depot, Heifer Ranch, and Quapaw Quarter United Methodist Church)
2011 – We introduced the spring break trip and stayed at First United Methodist Springdale. Our mission sites were Community Meals at Central UMC Fayetteville, Bread of Life at First UMC Springdale and Mount Sequoyah. For the summer trip, we stayed at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Jonesboro, Arkansas and worked at Witt House (First UMC Paragould), Mission Outreach in Paragould and Fisher Street United Methodist Church where we served lunch.
2012 – For spring break we stayed at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Fort Smith and did missions with the Salvation Army of Fort Smith including working in their thrift store and helping throw a block party. We also toured their shelter. The students also learned of a graffiti removal ministry. In the summer we stayed at First United Methodist Church Pine Bluff and did missions at Neighbor to Neighbor and the Salvation Army Thrift Store.
2013 – The spring break trip was Little Rock and we stayed at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. The mission areas were Arkansas Rice Depot as well as learning about Heifer Project International at Heifer Village and Methodist Family Health’s emergency shelter. The students returned with the knowledge of how hunger and hurt affect people in our neighborhood and around the world. The summer trip is to Mount Eagle Retreat Center near Clinton. We will be working with area ministries as well as help at Mount Eagle.  In May, 2013, Destination :Mission became an official ministry of the Arkansas Conference Council on Children’s Ministry.
